The VR version: Great. But, I never liked the long skinny ergonomics of the 24-70 after having previously owned the 28-70 f/2.8 Nikon. In the end: Sold the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 and have been all around happier with the Tamron 24 - 70 f/2.8 G2. All my Tamron glass also worked fine on the Z7. Some needed a tap in console update to get working though.
It has only three stops of VR compared with the Nikkor AF-S FX 70-200mm f/2.8 FL-ED VR but that’s still only one stop less than the aforementioned AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR.

Hn7s. Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f2.8E ED VR - A high-performance, versatile workhorse lens Nikon's legendary workhorse range has had a facelift in the form of this 24-70mm f2.8E VR. Designed for FX sensors but also fully functional on smaller DX-format cameras, this lens is a redesign on a classic focal range that has graced the front of many a camera due
Tried many used lenses, and the 24-70E VR is a bit softer in the centre, but significantly sharper in the corners than the old 24-70G, for landscape photography i think is worth the exra money, but these are big heavy lenses, not easy to carry them all day long. VR is useful, but not in the field.
Nikon has announced the AF-S Nikkor 24-85mm F3.5-4.5G ED VR, a comparatively affordable, stabilized, variable aperture standard zoom lens for full frame cameras. It comes as Nikon celebrates the sale of the 70 millionth Nikkor lens since 1933, and the 30 millionth silent-wave motor lens since the system's introduction in 1996.
Nikon has clearly indicated that they'll be doing two sets of the basic lens zoom trio: f/2.8 aperture high performance lenses (14-24mm, 24-70mm, and 70-200mm) and f/4 lenses that are more svelte and travel friendly (14-30mm, 24-70mm, and the leaked 70-200mm but not yet on the official Z Lens Road Map, likely to appear in late 2020).
